Welcome to the Pocket Lights Photography blog! Normally here you will see photos from my latest shoots and fabulous exciting photo news. However, today I’m going to let you know a little bit about who I am and what I do.
I am Lauren Robertson. I am originally from Florence, Alabama, am now living near Birmingham, Alabama and am planning to move to Nashville, Tennessee very soon. I am 23 years old (24 in a month) and newly married.
[Simply Bloom Photography]
My husband also has a blog that you can check out here: Southern Gamer
We have three guinea pigs (Ellie, Lucy, and Starbuck) & a crazy puppy (Zom) that we love dearly.
I am an Elementary Education major and currently teach 5th grade.
I have many interests and a few of those have developed into hobbies.
Music. I have always loved music, I have attempted to play a few instruments but realized I don’t have the patience to stick with any of them long enough to be good. I enjoy listening to interesting music, old music, new music, fun music, and lyrically clever music. I don’t stick myself in one genre, but I can be picky about what I like. I speak fluently in lyrics and you may notice bits and pieces of my musical taste scattered throughout my blog posts. I usually have the most fun being out when there’s a concert involved, so I try to find them often.
Photography. I am new to the technical side of photography, but have always loved taking photographs. I’ve always been the kid with the camera that is ten steps behind everyone else because I had to get a photo. I have years worth of gallery type photos, which are up for purchase if you would like to own some of my artwork. I have heard from many sources that your “eye” is what makes you a great photographer, not knowing everything, and I believe that’s true with any art field. It’s a different mindset and outlook that sets you apart.
Crafting. Since I was a tot, I have loved making crafts. Whether it be at school or at home, I always found something crafty to make. I was the kid who always bought the silly girly craft kits, made tons of friendship bracelets, and felt the need to “bedazzle” every piece of fabric I owned. I now have my own craft room in my house and I love it. I enjoy painting, although I’m not very good at it. Sewing easy items (I would love to make my own clothes..but again, the patience thing), decoupaging, and just creating new decorative pieces.
Other interests include:
(I can be a bit of a shop-aholic at times)
(love vintage items)
(comedies, non-cheesy romance, horror, thriller, sometimes cheesy romance, cult classics, Disney, and anything Judd Apatow, Tim Burton, Tarantino, or John Hughes)
(seems to be more audiobooks these days, but it’s still reading. Major love for Harry Potter, anything Chuck Palahniuk, Redeeming Love, Blue Like Jazz, & anything Linda Goodman)
(I watch my few shows, but I mostly enjoy watching seasons of shows on dvd. Friends, The Office, Scrubs, Arrested Development, LOST, Battlestar Galatica, Dexter)
Alright, so that’s me in a nutshell. With Pocket Lights, I want to extend my photography to weddings, portraits, and other various types of photography. Photography is something that I enjoy doing and would like to turn into a a profession, so this is the first step. As I mentioned before, many of my gallery photos are available for purchase. I have uploaded a few to my Etsy shop (a link for that will be on the links page). However, if the photo you would like is not in the shop, simply contact me and I will make it available for you.
If you are interested in booking a photoshoot session, just contact me and we will set something up. I am up for any type of shoot, I have done a baby session and a few of those photos are up. I have gotten several new lenses since then and am excited to use them when I get to shoot her and her family this Spring. I have also booked an engagement session & wedding for this summer as well as several portrait shoots. Just let me know what you need and we will get it scheduled. I am available to travel, if over an hour there will be a small fee for gas mileage (but I drive a Prius, so it wouldn’t be too bad).
I see so much beauty in this world, and am striving everyday for my camera to capture exactly what my eyes see. I notice details that many overlook and see just how beautiful the little things can be. I always keep that in mind when shooting. The details are just as important as the big picture. A photograph captures a memory and nothing should be left out.
Once again, welcome to my photoblog. I hope you enjoy what you see! I will leave you with one of my favorite photography quotes.
Thanks for reading!
“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” [elliot erwitt]
